The ISTH 2015 Congress opened with a bang – or, more specifically, with a tribal beat. As attendees streamed into the plenary hall for the opening ceremonies, they were welcomed by a series of performances representing a KTP_4983panoramic tour of Canada through song and dance, from the rousing music of the tribal percussionists, to a passionate rendition of “O Canada,” to a fiddle-accompanied step dance routine.

KTP_5004ISTH 2015 Congress President Sam Schulman officially opened the ceremony and introduced the next act: Three members
of the original cast of the Canadian production of Jersey Boys (impersonating McMaster University hematologists), who had audience members on their feet and dancing as they were joined by other cast members for a performance of “December 1963 (Oh, What a Night!).”

Introductions were made, awards were announced, and the show went on.
